Heidelberg was our first stop in a journey through Germany ad Austria. We stayed there for two nights in hotel Die Hirschgasse. The main reason for selecting this hotel was that it had private parking space which is good in a city with a large pedestrian area. Also since I figured the town would be pretty crowded (which it was because tourist busses come by all day) I wanted to be somewhere more calm but still close to the city. My first positive remark on Hirschgasse actually refers to what happened a couple of days before we started our trip. We were notified that due to road works the hotel was difficult to reach and an alternative route was suggested. After having a look at that and comparing it to our preparations in terms of route I emailed the hotel our route and asked them to see if that was ok. They mailed back and had made some remarks so we would surely be ok. The result was that we drove up the street of the hotel without any problems which would not have been the case without their prior help. The junior suite we had booked was comprised of a living room with on the right a bedroom with on-suite bathroom and on the left the master bedroom with on-suite bathroom. This was a lot of space for the money. The room was very clean and the bath facilities were also good. Although it was hot in Heidelberg at the time and the hotel rooms are not airconditioned the room temperature was ok. It is an old building with small windows and that probably keps it cooler. Breakfast was plenty and with a lot of choice. This room in het hotel refers most to the building's history, a student house dating back centuries. The restaurant serves a fine cuisine and in the evening we could enjoy our meal at the terrace. Staff, services, meals and rooms are great in the Hirschgasse. It feels like a home and the atmosphere is calm, relaxing and authentic. On foot Heidelberg can be reached within 10 minutes crossing the river Neckar over the Wehrsteig or over the Alte Brücke. Heidelberg castle is worth a visit.
