The Philosopher's walk is about 2 km long and leads from the district Neuenheim up to the Heiligenberg. It reveals panoramic views over all of Heidelberg right into the Rhein Neckar valley. One can access just from the back of the hotel Hirschgasse. It is located on the opposite side of the castle on the Königstuhl and one of the most famous sights of Heidelberg.

 

The appelation is not owed to the mentioned philosphers but the students of Heidelberg who discovered the way for romantic promenades and untroubled togetherness. The synonymous use of the word student and philosopher is originated from the time when every student had to study philosophy  - the so called seven liberal arts - before starting their special studies.
