Heidelberg's old university, is supra regional famous for its educational establishment. The most famous is undoubtedly the Ruprecht-Karl-University.
It was formed in 1386 and is the oldest university in Germany. The Campus is split into two urban districts with some single buildings: There are numerous historical buildings in the old town where you can find the humanities, the social science and law.
The natural science and medicine are the predominant parts that make up the new campus in Neuenheimer Feld.
The old university, also called "Domus Wilhelmina", was built from 1712 until 1735. At the 500th jubilee of the university Heidelberg in 1886, the west wing of the assembly hall was rearranged in the style of the Neorenaissance.
